On September 26 and 27 of 2024, the V International Scientific Conference on the topic of ‘Education, Research, Practice’ was held at the State University of Telavi, Georgia. The aim of the conference was to create a discussion space for representatives of the academic field, researchers, and educators, to share knowledge and experiences, discuss existing challenges, present modern technologies and leading practices, showcase scientific research, focus on innovations, and promote a culture of leadership.
The project ‘Overeducation and Labor Market Mismatch in Georgia: Challenges and Ways to Mitigate Them’ (under the fundamental research grant of the Rustaveli Foundation) from Ilia State University participated in the conference. Professors involved in the project, Dimitri Japaridze, Shorena Maghlakelidze, Davit Tutberidze, and Ekaterine Shaverdashvili, presented a report in the ‘Educational Management’ section on the topic: ‘The Role of Higher Education in Reducing Mismatch Between Graduate Skills and Employer Expectations.’ The aim of the presented research was to examine how well higher education reflects the demands of the labor market, that is, to what extent the knowledge and skills required by employers in advertised vacancies correspond to the actual knowledge and skills exhibited by graduates.
The presentation, which generated significant feedback and interest from the audience, has been published electronically in a peer-reviewed proceedings.
